Stream Cliff Farm Winery NewsWhen you visit the farm be sure to stop by the winery. It has such an old-fashioned atmosphere, as it was once the farm blacksmith shop. Gerald has been busy with wine and has some new releases for the 2010 season. Our new semi-sweet blackberry is ready and is simply called Stream Cliff's Grandpa's Blackberry. It features a picture of Gerald's Great Grandfather and his old mule. For several years we wanted to have a blackberry wine and now we are excited to have it available for tastings and sale. Another new wine is a Chardonnay called Stream Cliff's My Dolly, which is a lovely crisp, dry, white wine. Released at the end of the past year is a Pinot Noir called Stream Cliff's Rawhide. It is a wonderful dry, full-bodied red which was very well received by those who have tasted it. Last season we also introduced Stream Cliff's Iron Hand. Named after a beautiful stallion we owned, his picture is on our labels. This premium Cabernet Sauvignon has been a real favorite for the serious wine lovers. It has a deep, full flavor and oak presence. Our Stream Cliff's Sippin' Red wine has been a huge seller. Ever popular is our Stream Cliff's Kentucky Stud wine which was named for General John Hunt Morgan's stallion that he notoriously rode through his home before he left for the famous Civil War "Morgan's Raid." General Morgan and his men were at this farm July 11, 1863. We laughingly say if there had been a winery here during that time, the Raiders no doubt would have been caught in Indiana rather than Ohio! Cooking is an important part of what we do at the farm and we feel most recipes, when appropriate, are improved by adding wine. Of course, the alcohol evaporates during cooking but the flavor enhances the food's taste. Our favorite wines for cooking are our Stream Cliff's Old Bo, a dry red wine and Stream Cliff's Horsefeathers, a dry white. We often have our recipes for wine use available in the winery. Stream Cliff Farm Winery is on the Indiana Wine Trail (Southeast). A passport program for visiting all the six wineries on the trail is offered with a souvenir wine glass given for those completing the journey. Information is available at the winery or inquire when you visit. The website is www.indianawinetrail.com. While visiting the winery look for our Stream Cliff Farm Winery glasses with the horse logo. The glasses are the same size as the wine trail glasses so they are good to collect for a complete table setting.
